Code P0715: Input/Turbine Shaft Speed Sensor A Circuit

Diagnostic & Technical Explanation
Code P0715 (Input/Turbine Shaft Speed Sensor A Circuit) sets when the TCM loses, or receives an implausible, input/turbine shaft speed signal used for shift scheduling and torque converter clutch control. Causes are a damaged reluctor wheel, debris or metal shavings at the sensor tip, a corroded connector, or chafed wiring inside the transmission harness.

Probability-Ranked Repair Procedures (3 Ranked Fixes)

Rank #1

Inspect sensor connector for fluid intrusion

Easy DIY
Parts Estimate: $5.0–$20.0 USD Labor Estimate: 0.5 Shop Hours
  1. 1. Locate the sensor connector at the transmission case
  2. 2. Disconnect and inspect for fluid/corrosion in the pins
  3. 3. Clean and reseat with a fresh seal
  4. 4. Clear the code and road test
Required Replacement Parts: 🔧 Dielectric grease
Rank #2

Replace input/turbine shaft speed sensor

Moderate DIY
Parts Estimate: $30.0–$110.0 USD Labor Estimate: 0.9 Shop Hours
  1. 1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal
  2. 2. Remove the sensor from the transmission case, noting fluid loss
  3. 3. Install the new sensor with a fresh O-ring
  4. 4. Top off fluid, clear the code, and verify signal on a scan tool
Rank #3

Repair internal/external transmission wiring harness

Professional Required
Parts Estimate: $40.0–$200.0 USD Labor Estimate: 2.0 Shop Hours
  1. 1. Back-probe the sensor circuit at the TCM connector
  2. 2. Trace the internal transmission harness for chafing (may require pan removal)
  3. 3. Repair or replace the internal harness section
  4. 4. Refill fluid, clear the code, and verify a clean speed trace
