Code P0700: Transmission Control System (MIL Request)

Diagnostic & Technical Explanation
Code P0700 (Transmission Control System (MIL Request)) sets when the TCM's overall self-check strategy — as opposed to any single sensor — requests the MIL, finds an electrical fault on its main harness, or judges its adaptive shift strategy is out of range. Causes are low or contaminated transmission fluid, a TCM software issue, an aftermarket electrical accessory disrupting the TCM's power/ground, or a wiring fault on the main TCM harness connector.

Probability-Ranked Repair Procedures (3 Ranked Fixes)

Rank #1

Check transmission fluid level and condition

Easy DIY
Parts Estimate: $10.0–$40.0 USD Labor Estimate: 0.5 Shop Hours
  1. 1. Check fluid level and color per the platform's check procedure (dipstick or level plug)
  2. 2. Top off or service fluid if low, dark, or burnt-smelling
  3. 3. Clear the code and drive-cycle
  4. 4. Recheck for the code returning
Rank #2

Inspect main TCM harness connector

Moderate DIY
Parts Estimate: $15.0–$50.0 USD Labor Estimate: 0.8 Shop Hours
  1. 1. Locate the main TCM connector (often at the transmission case or under the hood)
  2. 2. Disconnect and inspect for corrosion, bent pins, or fluid intrusion
  3. 3. Clean and reseat, or repair a damaged pin
  4. 4. Clear the code and road test
Required Replacement Parts: 🔧 TCM connector pigtail
Rank #3

Reflash the TCM to the latest calibration

Professional Required
Parts Estimate: $5.0–$150.0 USD Labor Estimate: 1.0 Shop Hours
  1. 1. Check for a manufacturer TSB covering this shift-quality/MIL-request code
  2. 2. Reflash the TCM with the latest calibration if applicable
  3. 3. Clear codes and perform any required adaptive relearn
  4. 4. Road test through a full shift cycle
