Code P0606: Control Module Processor

Diagnostic & Technical Explanation
Code P0606 (Control Module Processor) sets when a control module's (ECM, PCM, or TCM) internal self-test finds its memory (RAM/ROM/EEPROM/NVRAM/checksum), processor, or an internal signal-processing channel is not functioning correctly. Unlike a sensor circuit fault, this points at the module's own hardware, so the fix path is reflashing the module's software first and, if the fault returns, replacing the module rather than chasing external wiring.

Probability-Ranked Repair Procedures (3 Ranked Fixes)

Rank #1

Verify battery/charging voltage before further diagnosis

Easy DIY
Parts Estimate: $5.0–$25.0 USD Labor Estimate: 0.3 Shop Hours
  1. 1. Confirm battery voltage is above 12.4V and charging system output is normal
  2. 2. Low or unstable voltage during a reflash can itself corrupt module memory, mimicking this fault
  3. 3. Correct any battery/charging issue found
  4. 4. Clear the code and retest
Required Replacement Parts: 🔧 Battery charger/maintainer
Rank #2

Reflash the control module to the latest calibration

Professional Required
Parts Estimate: $5.0–$150.0 USD Labor Estimate: 1.0 Shop Hours
  1. 1. Connect a scan tool with manufacturer reprogramming access on a stable power supply
  2. 2. Reflash the module with the latest available calibration
  3. 3. Clear codes and cycle the ignition
  4. 4. Drive-cycle and confirm the fault does not return
Rank #3

Replace the control module

Professional Required
Parts Estimate: $200.0–$900.0 USD Labor Estimate: 1.5 Shop Hours
  1. 1. Confirm the fault persists after a successful reflash, indicating a hardware failure
  2. 2. Disconnect the battery and remove the affected module
  3. 3. Install and program the replacement module with the correct VIN/calibration
  4. 4. Clear codes and verify normal operation across all monitored channels
